Be The MPC

Well done to our Sixth Form Economists, who led Sevenoaks School to victory in the Be the MPC competition at Tonbridge School.

Yael Selfin from KPMG was the lead judge, with Sam Cleary (Tonbridge), Oliver Wright (Skinners’) and Mrs Ukachi and Dr McNeil from Sevenoaks making up the judging panel.

The all-boys team presented really well and were awarded trophy for the Economics department. They did an impressive amount of pre-learning of relevant macroeconomics.

Well done also to our girls’ team who also did very well. Five finalist teams participated with one of Tonbridge’s teams coming second and Skinners’ third. Our two teams beat five other Sevenoaks teams in heats over the last month to represent the school in the final, competing against winning teams from other local schools.

The Be the MPC competition invited students to play the role of the MPC (Monetary Policy Committee), giving presentations in which they set the interest rate, gave their outlook for inflation over the next 12-18 months and recommended other monetary policy measures to help maintain price stability.

Congratulations to the winners: Joshua, Juan, Piet and Ethan, and to the finalists: Ellie, Anika, Athena and Bonita.
