A Sevenoaks Bursary
Our tradition of financial assistance began when the school was founded in 1432 by William Sevenoke. Today, the school continues to actively welcome applications from children who would only be able to take up their place because of a bursary.
Currently 74 pupils are in receipt of a bursary. It is a key priority for the school to significantly increase the number of students we support financially over the coming years. Being part of an inclusive community enriches everyone’s learning and appreciation for the power and beauty of diversity, while providing students with the skills to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
What is a bursary?
Also known as financial assistance, a bursary could help your child to access a Sevenoaks education. In addition to a fee discount, we give an annual allowance towards other school-related costs such as trips and educational equipment, so your child can enjoy and make the most of the full Sevenoaks School experience. A Sevenoaks bursary is available to day students joining in Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) or Year 12 (16+).
All our fee discounts are offered through our bursary programme. This is separate from our honorary academic and co-curricular scholarships which you can find out more about here.
“Our key priority is to ensure Sevenoaks is open to students who would thrive here, whatever their financial circumstances. Affordability should not stand in the way of a Sevenoaks education.”
Jesse Elzinga, Headmaster
Is my child eligible for a bursary?
Financial assistance is offered after careful consideration of each family’s circumstances. A Financial Assistance Panel reviews each case individually and may award a discount ranging from 5 per cent to 100 per cent of the school fees.
Day students who pass our entrance assessments, whose family’s finances and situation fall within our parameters, and who live within a reasonable commute (45 minutes) to the school is eligible for financial assistance.
Currently, we do not offer bursaries for boarders unless they are referred to us by the Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation or their family receives a Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) from the government.
