Secondary partnerships

Secondary Partnerships Overview

We work with teachers, students, parents and the wider community to advance education across Kent and beyond, also enriching our own education through working in partnership with secondary schools. In this, we hope to be true to the aims of our founder, William Sevenoke, in creating a school which is connected to the community and furthers an education for all.

Kent Academies Network (KAN)

The Kent Academies Network is a four-year university access programme for students from academies across Kent.

It aims to remove barriers to higher education by developing students’ confidence, knowledge, and agency so that they can set ambitious goals, and ultimately reach them.

98%

In its tenth year, an incredible 98 per cent of KAN alumni have received places for university degrees or high-level apprenticeships.

Our Core university access programme has been running since 2013 and our new Aspire university access programme began in 2021. Core and Aspire are uniquely comprehensive four-year programmes of mentoring, meet-up days and Core residential weeks.

‘Kan is a way to meet new people and explore new opportunities. It is helping me to forge my future, KAN student.

Knole Academy

In 2009, Sevenoaks School was approached by Kent County Council to be the educational sponsor of a new school in Sevenoaks, which was to become Knole Academy . The partnership between the two schools has now matured into a mutually supportive relationship, and there is a commitment to fostering links further.

The Headmaster and Senior Deputy Head at Sevenoaks are Governors at Knole Academy, and the former Senior Deputy Head at Sevenoaks is Chair of Governors.

One of Sevenoaks Schools’ strengths in supporting Knole Academy is its expertise in helping to support the introduction of the IB Diploma Programme.

Sevenoaks staff provide advice and support to Knole Academy students, and CPD events for staff. Several of our Higher Education events are open to Knole Academy, including university information evenings.

Two Knole Academy students each year are selected to benefit from the Kent Academies Network programme which is hosted at Sevenoaks.

Sevenoaks School staff undertaking a PGCE with QTS usually serve their placement at Knole Academy.  Both schools are proactively involved in the Physics Partners scheme , which aims to share ideas about Physics teaching and provides valuable professional development to the science team at Knole Academy.

VALENCE SCHOOL

We enjoy a close relationship with Valence School , working with children and young people who have physical disabilities and complex medical needs.

Sevenoaks teachers support specialist subjects at Valence, and members of Valence School visit Sevenoaks on a regular basis for lessons and sport, sometimes in partnership with the Sevenoaks Partnership of Primary Schools.

“Seeing the joy and excitement in the students when we play games especially in PE has had a big impact on me. I feel very glad that the students are having fun, and its nice to know that I am helping out in a very positive way.’ ”
