Despite scorching temperatures, Academic Enrichment Week ended the year with a refreshing set of projects, challenges and new experiences.

The theme this year was meaning and purpose, with an aim of developing student character traits including leadership, resilience, responsibility, respect, curiosity and collaboration.

Lower School students from Sevenoaks, Solefield and Bickley Park School participated in a forest school improvement project, Drama workshops, a cooking challenge, a nature escape experience, archery, quidditch and self defence taster games. They also took part in a Desperate Journeys empathy project, debating workshops and a talk on resilience by an Olympic gold medallist. An action-packed week!

The Year 9 programme included debating workshops, sports, a Business Language Challenge which developed language and teamwork skills, First Aid workshops and mapwork skills. All students were involved in a two-day project, which included a robotics challenge, survival skills, service at local junior schools, film making, Desperate Journeys, local history, a hydraulic claw competition, mini Model United Nations and a youth parliament.

Year 10 participated in Reflection and Perfect Curriculum workshops, creative writing and Shakespeare-related activities. The last three days centred on a fully fledged team research project – students researched in depth a topic in which they had a personal interest and worked with others towards an exhibition for Founder’s Day.

The Lower Sixth benefited from a higher education day with workshops on developing their university personal statements. They also had time to develop their Extended Essays and a super-curricular day for research and meetings with their tutors, Divisional Heads and supervisors. They finished their week with inflatables, pizzas and ice cream.
