Huge congrats to our UK Space Design Competition team who were part of the winning team at the National Finals.
After winning the regional round of the UK Space Design Competition (UKSDC) in November, our team travelled to Imperial College to take part in the weekend-long competition finals. Over 200 finalists took part in the competition, split into five large teams comprising a mixture of schools. Sevenoaks students worked with six other schools in a company of 64 students to design Astoria, a resource extraction facility in the asteroid belt. After submitting and delivering their presentation, their company, Olympus Mons Trading Company, was selected as the winner.
The UKSDC is a science, engineering and business challenge designed as a simulation of life in industry. Teams are given a list of requirements for a space settlement and are tasked with coming up with a detailed design which they present to a panel of judges from industry, academia and business.
Congrats to all that took part and a particular well done to Chelsey Dai and Tom Nassar who were given special recognition for their respective communication and innovative skills.
