Athletics
A small selection of Sevenoaks students competed at the Somerset Schools and County Combined Events Championships. Oliver Brooke and Tom Hobbs competed in the Intermediate U17M Octathlon and Georgie Baker also took part in the U20W Heptathlon in Yeovil on the weekend.
Oliver came third out of 16 competitors with 4386 (PB) points, managing to achieve a PB in six of the eight events. Tom finished seventh with a PB of 3893 (PB) points and will have another opportunity next year, competing a year young.
Georgia came tenth in the Girls U20 Heptathlon with 3819 (PB) points and will also have another opportunity to compete next year, given her U19 age-grade.
Badminton
At the county finals, our girls KS4 elite side were runners up and our girls KS3 development side finished as runners up as well. It was a great day out for a number of pupils who wouldn’t normally experience a tournament day.
Basketball
Elodie de Jong has been selected for the Basketball England Aspire South-East player pathway in the U14 age group. She is now also in the final stages of selection for the South Super Region with hopes that she will represent South at the national final in Manchester against the three other regions in June.
Swimming
At the regional championships, several students earned medals including:
- Demi Alli 15 50 BR Silver, 50 FC Bronze
- Eva Okaro 16 50 FLY Gold, 100 FC Gold, 50 FC Gold
- Izzy Okaro 16 50 FLY 4th, 100 FC 8th, 50 FC Bronze
- Chengze Duan 15 50 FLY Bronze, 100 FLY 6th
- Peony Lee 15 200 FC 7th
Staff highlights:
Lewis Church (coach) competed in the decathlon at the 35th Multistars, Grosseto event in Italy. He scored 7773 points which gives him an automatic qualifying place for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He acquired a personal best in the final event (1500m) beating his previous best by 8 seconds.
James Woodroofe has had quite a few weeks. During Easter, he cycled from Land’s End to the Kent and Sussex coast covering 912km in 11 days. Last weekend he followed this up with a 106km ultra marathon around the Isle of Wight, completing it in 23hrs and 37min.
