Discovering Diverse Voices

Share article:

This concert provided a focal point for showcasing diverse composers from around the world, performed by our talented student musicians.

To discover means to openly encounter and engage with that which we don’t know yet. Diverse means the inclusion of different genders, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. Voices of course are required when we make music. At the same time, voices in cultural studies refers to the perspectives and experiences of individuals, particularly those from a marginalised group.

Students from across the years engaged in this endeavour to make classical music more diverse, with highlights including Olivia’s performance of “Pop Corn” for piano by Japanese composer Yuyama, and Kimberley’s stunning interpretation of Melanie Bonis’s Cello Sonata.
