Debating continues to thrive at Sevenoaks. We had one of our most successful Oxford regionals with our teams taking the top two qualifying spots for the Grand Final in March beating local rivals such as Tonbridge, Benenden, King’s Canterbury, Worth, Ardingly, Tonbridge Grammar School, Christ’s Hospital, Cranleigh and St Olave’s Grammar School.
The motions debated were ‘This House would force all individuals registering to vote to take a mandatory current affairs test’ and ‘This House Prefers a world where accumulating wealth is seen as shameful as opposed to one where it is seen as aspirational’.
The successful teams were Maggie and Alex (U6) and Pam and Justin (L6). For Alex and Maggie, this is their second consecutive year in the final. Pam and Justin have had a particularly strong year as they have also qualified for the Cambridge regional and will be competing in Cambridge’s Grand Final in March. We wish them luck.
