‘Writing is an inherently evocative and personal process. Fleshing out one’s experiences, emotions and beliefs on paper gives witness to the passage of time, embracing both individual and public narratives.’
So begins this year’s issue of our creative writing magazine, Verve, which has just been published.
Congratulations to the published writers and the Lower Sixth editorial team. Verve 2026 is a tremendous celebration of imagination and talent from all year groups.
The Lower Sixth team launched a publicity campaign soon after they formed last October, and introduced writing prompts inspired by the theme of time. Entirely student-led, the project included creative writing competitions for Years 7-9, with winning entries featured in the magazine. From a highly competitive selection, the editors chose the final pieces and have presented them with striking graphic design.
Well done to all contributors, writers and editors alike. This edition highlights the enduring power of language to capture shared experience.
