Congratulations to Rakan Pharaon (Year 11) who has been selected as one of the 369 members of the UK Youth Parliament.
The members are elected to represent the views of young people in their area to government and service providers. Rakan will have the opportunity to go to the House of Commons and take part in workshops.
With other students from the school, Rakan is a Sevenoaks member of Kent Youth County Council. He was the only one selected from the group to participate in the UKYP: an amazing achievement.
Rakan said: ‘Being elected by the Kent Youth County Council to represent Kent in the UK Youth Parliament is both an honour and an incredible opportunity to directly engage with pressing issues facing the youth. Through running an election campaign and lobbying others, I have learnt valuable lessons in leadership, communication and community engagement.
As someone passionate about economics, politics and history, the platform not only offers me the chance to make a positive and meaningful impact but also the chance to work with like-minded peers to develop and implement solutions to important problems.’
