Sevenoaks School has been shortlisted in the category of Boarding School of the Year in the Tes Awards 2025.

The Tes Schools Awards recognise the very best teachers and schools from UK state and independent schools, across early years settings, primary and secondary.

The shortlist was compiled by a panel of experienced judges, including school leaders and experts. The schools and teachers they chose showcase the best of education across the sector within 22 award categories, covering all areas of school education.

The nomination recognises Sevenoaks School’s commitment to provide a modern and inclusive boarding experience while honouring almost 600 years of tradition within its historic campus. This has been enhanced with new sustainable, state-of-the-art boarding house, New House, which opened in the academic year 2023-24. It accommodates 60 girls and is the sister build to Aisher House, a boys’ boarding house, which opened in 2019 and received the highly acclaimed national RIBA award for innovative design.  The school now has equal boarding capacity for boys and girls, with eight boarding houses accommodating 450 boarders who are educated alongside 800 day students, with 76 different nationalities in the student body.

Jesse Elzinga, Headmaster at Sevenoaks School said, ‘We are delighted to be nominated for Boarding School of the Year in the Tes Awards 2025. Sevenoaks School takes pride in creating a learning environment based on the International Baccalaureate that prioritises diversity, inclusion and sustainability, supporting our students to become global citizens ready to navigate an everchanging world.

‘We provide a nurturing home for British and international students allowing them to experience different cultures and forge lifelong friendships. This nomination recognises our welcoming atmosphere, and our commitment to academic excellence and personal development, which makes us an exceptional place for students to grow, learn, and succeed.’

Jon Severs, Editor of Tes Magazine, said: ‘We’ve seen some incredible entries nominated in this year’s awards. The Tes Schools Awards are a highlight of the year, and it’s important that we properly recognise the fantastic work that’s been done in education across the academic year.’
