On 2 October, the annual SingOFF competition was held in the Pamoja Hall. Thirteen of our most talented singers ranging from Year 9 to Upper Sixth performed in front of an audience of over 450 people and our esteemed teacher judges.
Our live band, featuring bass, drums, guitar and with Mr Palmer and Ms Eccleshall on the piano, accompanied our singers in their performances. Mr Elzinga, Miss Hill, Mr White and Mr Washbourn kindly agreed to judge.
Our performers’ passion and enthusiasm received great reactions from the crowd, including emotional tears from the judges. During the intermission, they decided on the top three performers of the day, while the audience voted for their favourite performers, which for both groups, was a difficult task as all singers had exceptional performances.
Alex (U6) earned third place with a captivating performance of Beyoncé’s ‘Listen’, holding the audience’s attention from start to finish. Merryn (Y11) performed ‘All I Want’ by Olivia Rodrigo, originally from High School Musical, earning second and tears from Miss Hill. Finally, Emeline (U6) wowed the audience and judges with juggling playing the piano while singing Abba’s ‘The Winner Takes it All’ at the same time, securing first place. Salim (Y9) with his original performance ‘Coffee Place’ earned everyone’s heart with his heartbreaking love story making him the night’s Fan Favourite.
A huge congrats to all performers and everyone who auditioned for the SingOFF this year! We have raised over £2000 for Young Sounds UK, a charity that supports talented young musicians from low-income families, helping them to overcome financial and social barriers to music. In addition to ticket sales, we have also hosted a bake sale, providing a sweet treat to our audience while doing a good cause.
Once again, thank you so much for the SingOFF team, Mr Palmer for supporting and co-organising, and everyone who have participated or came to support this meaningful event!
