The Lower Sixth History trip to was an extremely informative and enjoyable experience with a jam-packed four-day schedule.

We went straight into the history of our surroundings with a walking tour of Berlin with a focus on the 1848 revolutions. This not only helped me acclimate myself to the city, but it acted as a great revision session and deeper discussion of what we had studied in class, boosting my understanding.

Throughout the trip, there were many impactful and insightful moments, one of the most memorable for me was visiting the Holocaust Memorial on the second day, this was harrowing and brought up various emotions, through its clever and deeply impactful design. It gave it a sense of claustrophobia and discomfort but also of humanity. It was an experience that cannot quite be captured in a classroom.

We then visited the German Resistance Memorial Centre and learnt about resistance against the Nazis within the army and education as well as from brave individuals. A group that all of us were really interested in was the White Rose, a university resistance group that distributed anti-Nazi pamphlets.

Throughout the rest of the trip, we also visited the palace where the Potsdam Conference occurred and the Berlin Wall Memorial which told another moving story.

Alongside all of this, we were also shown the rich and diverse culture of Berlin through the various areas and sights and the welcoming people. From black-light mini golf, to seeing a play we were able to explore the vibrant city through both a historical and a progressive lens.

I would like to thank all the teachers involved in such enjoyable trip!
