Womenempower is an initiative by Agata Rigo Saitta and Saniya Patel (both L6) that hosts discussion-based workshops run by guest speakers in order to tackle topics surrounding women empowerment aimed at girls and boys in Year 12.

The first session took place on Zoom and was very successful with over 40 girls from seven different schools in attendance. The discussion topic was “Using your voice to create change” led by Katie-Allen East, a senior manager at ‘Women for Women International,’ a global organisation that supports female survivors of war.

The next of the fortnightly meetings will have Kate Shand as the key speaker, the founder of EnjoyEducation, a company that provides tutoring and advice for students worldwide. Kate’s expertise in the field of education will boost the discussion of crucial topics such as specific skills that are important for women to develop within education and aspirations for higher education in different fields.

Agata, Saniya and the other members have been truly inspired by the interactions within the group. The amount of knowledge and the experiences shared in both small and large group discussions has been thought-provoking for all members.

Womenempower hopes to expand its network further to more students and to continue to strengthen ties in the local community through inter-school interaction.
