Sporting highlights

Athletics records broken, Team GB selections and hockey champions in this week's sporting highlights.

Athletics

There were some brilliant individual performances during the weekend athletics meet. Well done to Tom Hobbs who jumped an astonishing 1.80m in the high jump, Jake Brislane who ran a blistering 4.13 for the 1500m and Oliver Brooke who jumped an incredible 6.14m in the long jump breaking the Middle School boys record by 6cm.

Cricket

Old Sennockians Coco Streets and Ella Lockhart played for the Senior Kent Women’s side on Sunday in the Group 6 T20 Finals Day.

Curling

Congratulations to the following students who have all achieved the English Curling Association’s Orange Skills Award:

  • Charlie Stiasny
  • Evie Stiasny
  • Ed Brown
  • Sebby Kent
  • Millie Welch
  • Maggie Hunter

Hockey 

Congratulations to Connie Coquelin and Imogen Smith who won the U12 National Finals competing for HC Knole Park.

Netball

Congratulations to Lowri Morgan and Lottie Hobbs who were part of the U14 CFX netball team that has made it through to the National Clubs Competition later this month. 

Swimming

Eva Okaro has been selected for the GB team to compete at the 2022 European Junior Championships, Bucharest (5th-10th July).

It was a successful weekend for the following swimmers competing at the South East Regional Swimming Championships:

  • Maddie Evans – Gold 50 FLY, Silver 50 BK, Silver 100 FC
  • Tom Ellershaw – 4th 200 BK, Silver 50 BR, 6th 200 IM, 5th 100 BK

Tennis

Over the exeat, Sevenoaks boys, Matthew McClain, Tommy Cuomo and Nate De Mariveles competed for Kent.

At the Kent doubles tournament, we celebrated a number of fantastic placements:

  • U18 winners: Serena Manca and Tatiana Mouzykantskii 
  • U15 runners up: Carlotta Kern and Anastasia Smoliyaninova
  • U13 winners: Ruby Marriage and Victoria Kern 
  • U13 runners up: Imogen Smith and Emily Hancock 

Similarly, we also had a great performance at Harpenden Tournament:

  • U18 winners: Serena Manca and Tatiana Mouzykantskii
  • U16 consolation winners: Carlotta and Anastasia 
  • U14 runners up: Emily Hancock and Ruby Marriage 

In the Independent Schools League, Sevenoaks has become the overall winners out of 16 schools, a brilliant achievement for the second year in a row.

Staff highlights:

Mr Mike Bargeron (Head of Shooting) is the double English Champion in the Olympic disciplines (50m 3-Position & 10m Air Rifle) – which included retaining the 3-Position title from last year. He also earned a Silver Medal in British Air Rifle Championships. Mr Bargeron is currently gearing up the training for the ISSF Grand Prix in Granada, Spain at the end of this month and the Gibraltar Open Championships at the start of June which are qualification events for the European and World Championships in September and October respectively (which are the first Paris 2024 qualification events).
