From famous film themes to classical compositions, Orchestral Music at Sevenoaks was an evening of outstanding performances by students in every year group.

The Mighty Orchestra opened the concert, with more than 150 musicians gripping the audience with a suspenseful performance of the Avengers theme. Foundation Orchestra continued in the world of film music as they performed a medley of iconic movie themes, conducted by Mr Palmer.

Wind Band performed three pieces, all of which gave our percussionists a chance to shine. For the first piece, Mr Yelf created two percussion instruments made from a variety of metal objects. Ms Day conducted ‘El Cumbanchero’, an upbeat, highly rhythmic piece that transported the audience to Latin America. ‘Reverberations’ was the final Wind Band piece, echoing a single musical motif throughout the ensemble.

Mrs Ashwell returned to the traditions of Classical music as she conducted Sevenoaks Strings. They performed the first movement of ‘Divertimento’ by Gareth Walters, followed by the second of Grieg’s ‘Elegiac Melodies’.

Joseph Charkin conducted an ensemble of string players who performed his own original composition. Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mr Harvey, drew the concert to an unforgettable close. Their programme combined classical and film music as they gave a captivating performance of music from Gladiator and Elgar’s ‘Enigma Variations’.

Huge congratulations to all who performed in the concert!
