Six Sevenoaks students in the Lower Sixth are currently participating in Liverpool@CERN Particle Physics School, along with our Head of Science and Technology, Dr Ali Galloni, who is one of the organisers.

The summer school is an introduction to Particle Physics, covering the main areas of interest in the field. This year it has gone online, with lectures by University of Liverpool PhD students and post-docs, virtual visits to CERN and ATLAS and programming workshops so students can have a look at data themselves.

To enter the programme, students write essays over the Christmas break from a list of titles and the PhD students assess the essays for the most suitable candidates. This year there are a total of 24 students from 12 different schools taking part, balanced evenly for independent and state schools as well as boys and girls.
