Just before half term Sevenoaks School celebrated all types of relationships, families, gender and sexual identities with the ‘Week of Love’, organised by the Pride Society and held from from 11 to 15 February.

February was LGBT+ History Month and 14 February was Valentine’s Day, so with these in mind, students and staff worked to raise awareness of different representations of love and affection and also different ideas around gender.

Activities included themed lessons, LGBT+ awareness assemblies for the Middle School and the Lower Sixth, visiting speakers, a Valentine’s Day lunch, rainbow laces for sports activities, rainbow pins and movie night.

The Sennocke House Year 11 organised their annual sale of carnations, raising around £800 for charity through the anonymous delivery of flowers on Valentine’s Day. The evening before the flowers are distributed, the whole boarding house gets together to sort the flowers into tutor groups and tie ribbons to attach the cards to the flowers – one huge team effort!

Sevenoaks is an inclusive and respectful school for all its students and staff, and in celebrating diversity we hope to enable our students to be themselves in a safe and open-minded space.
