Sporting Highlights

Despite some really poor weather we managed to get some good results this weekend, particularly in rounders and tennis.

Athletics

At the Kent Schools’ Athletics on Saturday, there were some excellent performances including Orissa Welsh (silver in hurdles) and Pheobe Barker (3rd in 1500m) and both earn their Kent vests at the inter-counties next weekend.

Cricket

There were excellent wins for the 1st and U15B teams versus Duke of York’s on Saturday. The 1st XI scored 197 including excellent 50s from Cyrus White and Rory Easton and bowled the opposition out for 31 thanks to top bowling from Nick Bett, Rhys Joseph and Peter Wright.

After scoring a 100 against the MCC last year, Cyrus White was invited to attend the Lord’s test match on Sunday where his name was announced on the big screen in front of the whole crowd. He also had a fine lunch and was hosted by the MCC for the whole day.

Chris Tavaré hosted an excellent Division 1 of the local Primary Schools cricket tournament on Friday.

Sailing

At the recent RS Feva Championships, two Sevenoaks boats, Matthew and Becky Caiger, Nicholas Davies and Annabel Richards, qualified for the gold fleet and overall the team took home the trophy for first-placed school team, ahead of Oakham and Tonbridge School.

Swimming

Congratulations to Lily Snell who has qualified for the prestigious Sainsbury’s UK School Games which is held at Loughborough University.

Tennis

Congratulations to the senior girls who narrowly missed out on the national finals after a close loss to Bede’s in the regional final.

Congratulations to the U14 boys who beat Tonbridge School in the quarter-finals of the Kent Cup.

We hosted successful tennis tournaments for local state schools last week; thanks to Charlotte Pearson for organising this.
