At Rockdale in Sevenoaks last week, four residents were delighted to receive printed and bound copies of their life stories, as told to Sevenoaks students.
The older people have been sharing their memories in conversation with eight students during Thursday afternoon service times, as part of our Bridging Ages service project. Each resident was ‘interviewed’ by two students in their weekly visits throughout the Michaelmas term, and the accounts were written up, edited and printed in the Lent term.
We enjoyed a little presentation event last Thursday, when the students gave the residents their books.
One student said, ‘I think this is a great way to give back to the community I’m living in and I hope it makes [the older man] happy to have a book all about himself and his life. I would like someone to do that for me in my older life!’
