On Sunday 4 December approximately 40 members of the Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees group attended a festive event in the school Dining Hall. About 50 boarders, who came from all the houses, were involved, alongside several boarding staff. Lots of the organisation was done by Aisher, while Park Grange baked a mountain of cakes. Our students used an array of languages from Ukrainian to Farsi and Arabic to help make the children welcome. The children played plenty of musical chairs while parents had a chance to relax. Some of the youngest children were beside themselves with excitement when Oleg, dressed as Santa, arrived to deliver small gifts.

Georgia, who works with Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees, said: ‘I cannot thank you all enough. The Sevenoaks School children were absolutely brilliant; they gave me hope for the future. I still feel a bit overwhelmed by yesterday’s response, and seeing all the happy faces. Things have been so hard for the families we look after, seeing them all there yesterday, happy, safe, chatting and in a warm, caring environment meant so much to us all.’

Thanks to Catering for their valuable support. It was definitely a worthwhile end to the year.
