A Night at the Movies

Sevenoaks musicians hosted two brilliant nights of celebration of the wonders of film music. Our orchestras, ensembles, singers and actors did a marvellous job, bringing to life some of the most iconic musical moments in films, such as Harry Potter, The Godfather and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Songwriters’ Concert

A fantastic evening was had by all on 2 December in the Pamoja Hall for the songwriting workshop concert. Eight of the school’s finest songwriters performed fantastic original songs and carefully selected cover versions. The evening was rounded off by an enthusiastic group rendition of Mariah Carey’s, ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ led by Rosie White Belchere.

Charity Concert

Students went head to head with teachers for the Charity Concert, taking turns to perform popular tunes. Notable mentions include the cover of ‘Hey Jude’ by Music teachers Mr Potts and Mr Palmer. Money was raised from this concert in support of Young Minds, a leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing of children. Congratulations to the teachers, the winners of this year’s competition!

Crash into Christmas

The Sevenoaks School Big Band led this year’s festivities with seasonal and other popular classics, supported by Voices and the Middle School jazz ensembles alongside other quartets and jazz combos. Forty per cent of the box office takings will be donated to the school’s selected charity.

Carol Services

Approaching Christmas, we heard some wonderful choral singing at the service of lessons and carols at St Nicholas’ Church. Thank you to the Sennocke Consort, Choral Society, Parents’ Choir and Middle School Chamber Choir, to all readers from the wider school community, and to the Friends of Sevenoaks for hosting mulled wine and mince pies afterwards in the undercroft. The following day, the Sennocke Consort performed the Tobacco Pipemakers Service at St Lawrence Jewry next Guildhall. On the final day, we move back to the Pamoja Hall for the last two Carol services, joined by all teachers and students.

ABRSM and Trinity Practical Exams

We have had a huge exams intake this month, with more than 40 students taking part in ABRSM and Trinity music exams. We wish them the very best of luck!
