Nearly 600 pupils voted in the school’s Mock Election, a turnout of nearly 80%, in the absence of many Upper Sixth and Year 11s, who are on study leave. Voting on the basis of the in-school campaigns run by sixth-formers, the school gave the victory to the Conservatives, with 62% of the vote. The full results were:
Conservatives: 352
Labour: 70
UKIP:57
Lib Dems: 44
Greens: 43
The Mock Election followed the school’s Question Time hustings for all the local candidates and a talk by George Parker, the Political Editor of the Financial Times, both organised by a committee of sixth-formers to raise pupil engagement with politics.
