This year the Lower School showcased a broad range of plays at the end of term.

The SSTC Lower School production this year was a showcase of three plays. Year 7 pupils performed The Diary of Valencia Adams and The Time Travelling Bin, both written by the cast and involving shadow puppetry with a Year 7 Technology crew. The Year 8s performed a piece based on work from the Lower School Drama club, inspired by the Neil Gaiman novel The Graveyard Book, which featured live action and radio drama.

I was part of the cast of The Time Travelling Bin and also helped to co-write it. The play was about girl called Aquilla who finds a magical bin in her town. Aquilla, a caveman and an engineer all go on a mystical journey through time and battle the Evil Time Lord.

I really enjoyed being in a production as I got to make lots of friends and work with lots of great teachers. I have learnt many new dramatic techniques including the fantastic art of scenery design, character production and shadow puppetry. All of these techniques came together when we performed to a live Year 7 audience as well as some Year 8s and teachers. This was an especially exciting experience which I am very grateful for as I was not sure this would happen due to Covid. I also really enjoyed watching the Year 8s perform and especially the comedy parts.

Overall, it was a lot of fun and I am excited to do the Lower School pl;ay next year.
