In August, we held our annual summer school for high achieving pupils from local primary schools. Over 240 Year 4 and 5 pupils from our Partnership Primary Schools took part in at least one of our Maths, Science, Sport, Art, Music and Drama courses. Each school lasted between two to four days over one week.
Each subject took on an exciting theme. The Maths strand focused on code breaking, culminating in a mocked up escape room where the pupils had to crack the code to open the safe, to extract the key. Students on the Science programme looked at air propulsion, dissection and how materials react when heated, while the Drama strand performed Macbeth with a twist. Art studied still life using different techniques building and layering to produce some wonderful pieces. Pupils taking part in Music studied singing in groups and African drumming and the Sport thread studied six sports over the two days.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and we hope all students enjoyed themselves.
One parent whose child attended the Drama school commented ‘Had a wonderful time! Enjoyed working with other children on something new and interesting and making new friends. The teachers were absolutely amazing!’
Another parent whose child attended the Science course said ‘She loved every day (and the food came a close second to the science!)’
