We were honoured to welcome David Skinner OBE to Sevenoaks School to speak about humanitarian work.
David is Senior Education Coordinator for the international humanitarian response to the conflict in Ukraine. He worked for 25 years in the British Government before joining Save the Children, where his roles included Country Director in Afghanistan, Country Director in Pakistan, Global Education Director, and leader of the humanitarian response to support the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar.
He delivered a crisis scenario workshop based on the forced migration of Rohingya Muslims to Lower Sixth students, who discussed stakeholder roles, responsibilities and conflicts.
In the evening, he gave a public lecture on ‘Why international humanitarian responses are not as effective as they should be’. David’s wealth of experience in senior humanitarian coordination roles in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Ukraine was contemporary, interesting and insightful.
