The Biology Department
The Biology Department at Sevenoaks School is lively, diverse and interesting. There are six well equipped laboratories, nine academic staff and two technicians. The school grounds and nearby Knole Park also provide an excellent resource for teaching and learning.
Years 7 & 8
The Lower School course covers part of the Key Stage Three National Curriculum and the emphasis is on learning through experiment and exploration. In Year 7 pupils study mainly human biology, including human health; and in Year 8 plants, ecology and inheritance.

Years 9 to 11
Pupils in Year 9 study aspects of the IGCSE syllabus, including developing their practical skills.
In Year 10 and Year 11 all pupils continue to study three sciences separately. The IGCSE course provides both a sound grounding in the subject as well as interesting practical work and is ideal preparation for IB science courses in the Sixth Form.
The Sixth Form
In the Sixth Form, students study the IB at either Higher or Standard Level. The IB courses have recently been revised and give students the opportunity to study up-to-date biology in some considerable depth. Both SL and HL courses share a common core, with extension material for the HL students. All IB students must carry out practical work and experiments as part of their course and, in addition, take part in the Group IV Project when they work as a team with students from other science departments. Many of our students go on to study Medicine, Biology, Natural Sciences and Biochemistry at University.
