A group of Lower Sixth with Ned Geake from Year 11 and Anna Power from Year 10 enjoyed a challenging day at the World Schools debating competition hosted by the London School of Economics on Saturday. Congratulations go to Mervyn Tong who was judged best novice speaker.
World Schools is different to the school’s normal British Parliamentary debating format, as it has three speakers on each team and longer speeches. The motions were:
- This House Would impose a 100% inheritance tax on all wealth above £100k
- This House Believes That governments should pay housewives and house-husbands for their work.
- This House Would equally and exclusively fund all national election campaigns from a central, state run fund
