Years 10 and 11 had the privilege of hearing Fergus Anckorn speak yesterday. Aged 97, Fergus is a veteran of the Second World War. He recounted his experiences fighting in defence of Singapore and subsequently being held as a prisoner of war. Fergus recounted no less than four occasions when he was certain that he was about to die and others around him lost their lives. Despite being a tall man, by the time he was liberated he only weighed five stone. His main messages included the importance of determining to be positive in all situations and making the most of being alive.
