Christiane Gontarek (L6) has been awarded runner-up in the national Tycoon Enterprise Competition for her social enterprise project Period Equality Together, which aims to tackle period poverty. She was also awarded the Business for Good Award for creating a business with a positive social impact whilst being ethical and environmentally conscious.
Period Equality Together was one of only five enterprises from 491 to make the final list in the Tycoon 2k category. Christiane was commended for displaying such a high degree of enterprise across all eight capabilities: being creative, problem solving, aiming high, staying positive and being resilient, listening and understanding, presenting, working in a team and leading. The shortlisted businesses were assessed by a panel of business experts including representatives from SAGE and the Peter Jones Foundation who run the competition.
Christiane successfully launched the enterprise this year and focused on providing period and well-being products to those in need through a subscription box service. She has also set up the first ‘Period Chapter’ in Sevenoaks and engaged in extensive advocacy work linked to the tampon tax. In the first year of the project, she has raised over £1,100 to support 600 refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable menstruators.
