On Friday 14 October, Sixth Form students, Pragna Kasetti, Thea Beadle, Charlotte Foley, Deborah Allen, Kieran Sassone, Patrick Nickols and Yuan Wong attended the Tonbridge School Science Conference to present posters on their research projects (E-cigarettes, the Frogs of Madagascar, Antibiotics and the Physics of Basketball).
Throughout the day they had the opportunity to ask questions about other students’ project posters and explain their own research to delegates from many schools including The Judd School, Westminster School, Winchester College and Tonbridge School. In addition, Pragna, Thea and Charlotte gave an excellent lecture on nicotine addiction and the benefits and dangers of e-cigarettes which generated plenty of discussion amongst the other delegates.
Other notable presentations were given by Tonbridge School student Geoffrey Shier on The Physics of the Organ and Oliver Turnbull from Westminster School on The Astro Pi. Three lectures were also given by scientists from Birkbeck College and University College London. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into how scientists communicate their ideas with each other.
