The Higher Education Summer term programme
On Monday 27 June Lower Sixth students had a dedicated Higher Education Day to continue with their applications for 2023 entry.
The Higher Education department continues to support every Sixth Form student with their future choices. We have a programme of events for each term including fortnightly talks with admissions tutors and professionals. The Lower Sixth are currently working on their research into suitable courses, focusing on course content and activities to support their Personal Statements. They can also opt for a second meeting with their HE Adviser.
This term our students have benefited from the following talks:
- The London Colleges talk, given by UCL, Imperial and the London Interdisciplinary School
- Choosing and being chosen by universities. With Professor Richard Harvey FBCS, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Admissions, UEA
- The graduate job market, with the CEOs of Transform Society (James Darley) and Pathways CTM (Chris McNamara)
- The elements of a successful UCAS application, with speakers from Loughborough (Jared Patel), Bristol (Erin Brady), and Bath (Charlie Smith)
- The UCL BASc/Arts and Sciences degree (Dr James Everest), Liberal Arts and Combined Honours degrees at Durham University (Professor Megan Bruce and Assistant Professor Nathan Gilbert), and Scottish degree courses (Mr Ivar Møller, Deputy Director of Admissions UK and Europe, University of St Andrews).
- Employability and the world of work, with Becci McKinley-Rowe, Managing Director at Blackrock, and Parvin Badalbayli, Career Consultant at Newton Bright
Some students who want to combine paid work with study may also want to consider the new and sought-after degree apprenticeship route. We have held meetings for students who would like to know more about the degree apprenticeship application process and have further meetings available during Co-curricular Week.
US university speaker visits
Throughout the year, we host visits from the admissions officers of US and International universities. Visits this term have included Claremont McKenna, Bates and Davidson in the US, and the University of British Columbia in Canada.
