Eleven bright and enthusiastic Lower Sixth students recently attended the inaugural Tonbridge School Science Conference. The students created three exquisitely-presented and scientifically-robust posters which they presented to other students from local schools during a lunchtime poster session. The posters covered a broad range of disciplines; hydrogels, epigenetics and quantum tunnelling. Three students, Reena Chow, Oliver Kidd and Ellie Bayne gave an articulate and captivating talk on epigenetics (why identical twins aren’t actually identical) to the assembly. The maturity and eloquence with which they presented their research was clearly noted by many. The group was treated to guest lectures on forensic ballistics and the origins of, well, everything! It was a great occasion and gave the students the opportunity to talk about what interests them with others students of the same age.
