The first half of the 2020 Michaelmas term has seen some great sporting success and involvement at Sevenoaks, with 1144 pupils participating in sport and 203 clubs for them to choose from. Putting on a fully internal programme has been complex, but everyone has taken to it with fantastic enthusiasm.

Golf

On 20 September, Maggie Hunter played in the Kent Junior Girls Championship at Faversham Golf Club and placed third in the Handicap competition with a net 77.

Mission 20k and Centurion

We have launched two internal projects this academic year. The first aims to reach 20,000 after-school practices collectively, including all Sevenoaks students over the course of the year.

The second is the Centurion award which is awarded to any pupil who attends 100 after-school practices before the end of the year. This links to Project 1000, which is aimed at getting 1000 pupils involved in fixtures across the academic year, but which would prove difficult this year for obvious reasons.

PE and Games

We have placed a greater emphasis on developing independence among our pupils and there have been many examples of how this has worked well, including lessons led by Year 11 pupils, Year 7s leading football and hockey warm-ups and positive peer recognition in netball. In rugby, Mr Cullen has empowered pupils to teach 20-minute blocks of the sessions, while Mrs Nicholson has encouraged more analysis by players within the hockey programme.

Rugby

The rugby touch tournament concluded on Saturday. This was a really successful way to play competitive sport with excellent levels of play, combining all ability levels alongside one another within equally matched teams.

Self-defence

Thanks to Mr Rands-Webb for successfully introducing the self-defence club for 21 Year 7 and Year 8 pupils on a Friday night.
