Golf is a games option for Sixth Form and some Year 11 pupils in the Michaelmas and Summer terms. On a Tuesday afternoon the majority of players practise at Wildernesse Golf Club while beginners take lessons at the Tonbridge Golf Centre. After-school practice sessions, for pupils in all year groups, take place on Thursday during both Michaelmas and Summer terms.
The number of committed golfers in the school has grown over recent years and with this has come increased success. The golf team enters the HMC Foursomes and the ISGA Matchplay tournament annually and has progressed to the regional semi-final twice in recent years. The team also plays a number of matches against other schools in the Michaelmas and Summer terms.
The boys and girls have been able to play at a number of fantastic venues over the last few years including The Open Championship venue, Royal St George’s and The Shire (Seve Ballesteros’s only course in the UK), where we completed in the ISGA National Plate final in summer 2013. An annual highlight is The Smarden Bell Championship at Chart Hills where we complete against Tonbridge, King’s Canterbury, Eastbourne College, Epsom College, Dulwich College, Cranleigh and Reigate Grammar School. The Sevenoaks team has finished as runners-up in three of the last five years. Thomas Harrison was individual champion in 2014.
