Congratulations to our debaters on their success in reaching the finals of the Oxford Schools Debating Competition.
At the regional round of the competition on the 28 January, three Sevenoaks teams qualified to take part in the Finals Day at the end of term, along with three other teams from the south east region.
The Sevenoaks students who qualified are Nilou Davis, Luke Ashworth, Sian McAllister, Ellie Gilbert-Bair, Proud Puangmaha and Vara Gunananthan.
They debated the following motions:
This House regrets the glamorisation of start-up culture that encourages people to start their own companies rather than pursue traditional career paths.
This House believes that ethnic minority parents in high crime areas within the USA should teach their children not to trust the justice system, or figures of legal authority (eg police, judges, state prosecutors, etc).
