The Debating Society is delighted that it will have two debating teams at both the Cambridge and Oxford National Schools Debating Finals. One of our teams – Kartik Iyer and Yasmine Kanagalingam – was entered for both competitions and qualified for both Finals Days, while Gabriela Ivanova and Ned Geake will be at the Cambridge Finals, and Yuan Wong and Crystal Lee will be at the Oxford Finals. The regional rounds of both competitions were hosted at Sevenoaks, where teams from schools across the south-east debated motions such as This House Believes That western states should not use private military contractors in combat and This House Believes all important medical decisions for a child should be made by medical professionals, with only 15 minutes to prepare and no access to the internet.
Gabriela Ivanova has also qualified for the Regional Final of the Schools Mace, the national competition run by the English Speakig Union, with a different partner, Rebecca Funnell. Sevenoaks will also be hosting this event.
