The BSDRA Thames Valley Championships, hosted by Eton and Claire’s Court Schools, took place on 9 June at Maidenhead Sailing club. Twenty teams from twelve schools took part with Sevenoaks entering two teams. The day saw very light conditions which made the racing challenging and called for a lot of patience and concentration. The event format saw teams racing in a league round with the top four advancing to knockouts. After the league stage Sevenoaks A came out on top with Sevenoaks B 3rd, so both teams qualified for the semi-finals. Sevenoaks A advanced to the final with a win over Magdalen College School (MCS) but Sevenoaks B were narrowly defeated by Rugby.

In the third place play off Sevenoaks B saw off MCS 2-0 to claim third place overall, a great result for a B team finishing ahead of many A teams. The final was a tense affair which went the distance in three very close racing with Sevenoaks A grabbing victory right on the finish line of the deciding race which led to jubilant scenes and some celebratory swimming. Overall a great result for the school which stands both teams in great stead as we look towards the Schools Nationals which are taking place the first three days of July.
