Royal Navy Field Day

The school’s Royal Navy (RN) section spent their second field day of the academic year in Portsmouth on 25 May.

Half of the cadets were able to go out on a yacht and a motor cruiser under the guidance of Lt Cdr Hill and the CCF boats team skippers. They were able to successfully learn to navigate to the Isle of Wight where they stopped for lunch in Cowes before their return to Portsmouth. The other half of the section were able to visit Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with SLt Harris and SLt Harmer, where they learnt a variety of historical and current facts about the RN via participating in activities in Action Stations and touring HMS Warrior and HMS Victory.

The cadets were also able to go on a boat tour of Portsmouth Harbour where they saw a variety of the ships from the RN fleet in port, including several Type 45 Destroyers, Royal Fleet Auxiliary supply ships, and a Type 23 Frigate, amongst others, and were able to gain a greater understanding by seeing these ships, to support what they learn at school.

A great day was had by all in the glorious weather we experienced. The cadets were a credit to the school, with several members of the public remarking on how well behaved they were throughout the day. We are looking forward to the next field day in October.
