Students from the Royal Navy section recently took part in a 50k rowing challenge to raise money for HMS Oardacious, four Royal Navy submariners competing in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge rowing race this December.
The HMS Oardacious team aims to be the first team to cross the finish line of the 3000 mile race, and to raise over £100,000 for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity in the process in order to develop a specific project around improving mental health in the submarine community.
Sevenoaks students learnt all about HMS Oardacious, the race, the reasons behind why the submariners are competing, and the 50 years of the continuous at sea deterrent (CASD) that ensures the UK remains safe. They then participated in the rowing challenge, raising £200 in the process, an excellent effort from the students and we will be following the team’s progress closely in the next couple of months.
