The Recital Room was filled with new music and dramatic performances yesterday to celebrate Roald Dahl’s 100th anniversary. Professional string quartet ‘The Dulcinea Quartet’ (including OS Minn Majoe) and harpist Olivia Jageurs (OS) spent the afternoon workshopping new pieces written by St. Lawrence’s and Amherst Primary Schools, with the help of Mr Roe’s VSU Group, Composers in Action (CIA for short!).
This was followed by a workshop and concert of new pieces by the Composers’ Corner (Matthew Brown, Mika Curson, Harry Fry, William Gough-Cooper, James King, Peter Westbrook and Sophie Westbrooke), combined with dramatic readings of extracts from Roald Dahl stories by Miss Bates’ Drama Group (Daisy Hargreaves, Mia Hart, Juliette Imbert, Aarti Jalan, Molly Marr-Johnson, Paloma McDeighan-Lee and Meg Morvan). The caricatures of Roald Dahl’s stories were certainly brought to life by these new musical-dramatic interpretations!
