The Upper School

The Sixth Form, or Upper School, is a large, vibrant and international community. All pupils follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme which we strongly believe provides an outstanding foundation for life beyond school.

The Sixth Form at Sevenoaks is over 400 strong with some 30 different nationalities represented, and around 75 are new to the Lower Sixth each year.

Day pupils are moving up from the Middle School are placed into new tutor groups along with new students. Sixth Form tutor groups include students from both the Upper and Lower Sixth. This is of great benefit to the Lower Sixth as the older pupils really help and guide them. Sixth Form tutors are specialists which is very important when pupils need advice and help with university applications.

The IB Diploma allows each one to specialise in his or her chosen subject areas, and provides opportunities to develop independent work habits and personal interests. It also enables them to contribute to Sevenoaks School’s rich history of service by getting involved in community activities and to play an active part in the sporting and creative life of the school. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons are dedicated to these activities. Once a fortnight there is a talk by a visiting speaker. These cover a wide variety of topics of relevance to young adults; for example, some are PSHE-based, while others focus on Higher Education.

The Sixth Form…really is an elite institution.

Good Schools Guide

Nearly all students become prefects in their second term, and under team leaders called Senior Prefects they carry out a huge variety of tasks, from guiding visitors on campus tours to organising younger pupils queuing for lunch!

Language conversation classes, learning support sessions and optional lessons such as music and drama are arranged during study periods, which are otherwise spent studying. There is also a vast array of co-curricular activities available, from Model United Nations and debating to Food Technology Club and jazz bands.
