Lower School Academic Scholars

Share article:

The Lower School academic scholars (IQ), visited Charles Darwin’s house (Down House) as they have been looking at the theory of evolution, and other 19 discoveries, inventions and theories.

This led on to exploring Crick and Watson’s discovery of the double helix. Dr Rachel Yu and Dr Mark Parsons led a session in the laboratory on extracting DNA from peas and strawberries using a food blender, a centrifuge and some ethanol! Although we don’t have a microscope powerful enough to actually see the double helical structure, as least we can through this process see the DNA strands floating to the surface!
