For a week during the Easter holidays, 25 students from 14 different countries around the world came together to take part in Sevenoaks School’s very first Online Easter Programme.
As we were unable to welcome external students on to our lovely campus, lessons were conducted over Zoom. One class of Year 9s and 10s and another class of Year 11s and Year 12s spend two and a half mornings enjoying lessons on Social Leadership and two and a half mornings of Critical Thinking. Students used breakout rooms to work together to come up with their projects and presentations.
Social Leadership was taught by Mrs Penny Hargreaves, Head of PSHE, and taught students about differing leadership styles and some of the world’s greatest social challenges before working together in teams to present innovative ways to create change.
Critical Thinking was taught by former Deputy Head, Mr Graham Lacey, and focused on Artificial Intelligence and its various strengths and weaknesses as well as the opportunities and threats that is poses as the world moves into the post-Covid era.
Each class also took part in two afternoon activities, run by Mr Ed Gibson, Director of Summer Programmes, playing fun and communicative games which allowed the students to get to know each other on an informal basis.
Feedback was universally positive, with students describing the course as ‘engaging’, ‘interactive’, and ‘eye opening’ and every single student saying that they would recommend the Online Easter Programme to a friend.
While we are excited for external students to return to campus for our courses, all the teachers involved absolutely loved meeting the students and introducing them to these key topics and Sevenoaks School’s style of teaching and learning.
