Sevenoaks provides a range of opportunities to engage in sport across the academic year, fostering lifelong interest and creating an environment where performance can be developed. We place a strong emphasis on development of character through sport and encourage students to develop behaviours which positively affect sporting culture such as humility, resilience, independence.

The school has 22 representative sports on offer to students throughout the three seasons. The representative sports on offer at Sevenoaks School are archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, climbing, cricket, cross country, fencing, football, futsal, golf, hockey, netball, rugby sevens, rugby union, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming, tennis, table tennis and volleyball.

With over 1200 fixtures played each year and 200 sports teams, there is a large and diverse range of sports providing opportunities to develop leisure interests that will last students a lifetime. We are a six-day-a-week school, and sport is played on Saturday afternoon for all year groups except Years 7 and 8 who have sport, including fixtures, during the week.

Over 80 students represent teams at county to national level each year including age group internationals. We regularly compete in national competitions across a broad range of sports including cross country, hockey, netball, sailing, shooting, squash, and tennis, while the rugby teams are county champions and winners of the Sussex and Kent Independent Schools’ League (SKIL) on a regular basis at multiple age groups.

Sennocke Centre

Sport takes place in the Sennocke Centre, our multi-million pound sports venue. The facilities include a 25m six-lane swimming pool, fitness suite and weights room, studio, three glass-backed squash courts, three indoor tennis courts, an eight-court sports hall, rock and rope climbing area, physiotherapy room and a servery/meeting room. Outdoor amenities include an athletics track, tennis courts, floodlit hard courts and Astro and grass pitches with pavilions.

Sport Performance and Scholarships programme

The Sport Performance and Scholarships programme (SPS) caters for talented students and includes one-to-one coaching sessions, individualised mentoring programmes and access to nutrition advice, athletic development, physiotherapists and sports psychologists.

Lauren Cripps

Assistant Director of Sport

Having taught for the last 9 years across a range of schools in London and the South-East Lauren has recently enjoyed pursing her Master’s in Education to consolidate her teaching to date. An avid coach she also holds qualifications in netball, athletics, swimming, cricket and lacrosse.

A keen netballer she continues to play, umpire and coach, most recently with London Pulse as the Head Coach for the Performance Academy.  She combines this with running a local netball coaching company, promoting and developing netball in the local Sevenoaks community.

Steve Brenchley

Director of Sport

Steve studied Sport and Exercise Science at Birmingham University and has lectured and tutored at the University of Buckingham within their PGCE course.

Steve joined the department from Malaysia, where he was Director of PE and Sport at Epsom College for four years. As a founding member of staff he built an extensive sporting programme which aimed to inspire every student and create a strong sporting culture. Before moving to Malaysia Steve taught at Abingdon School where he led the tennis and hockey, alongside teaching PE and Biology.

Jamie Cullen

Assistant Director of Sport

Jamie has extensive experience both as a player and coach, all of which has played an integral role in helping to develop the rugby provision at Sevenoaks School. As a player, Jamie progressed through the ranks with Cardiff Blues and was part of the Welsh Six Nations Under 20 squad but was forced to retire from the international scene after sustaining a serious knee injury during his Loughborough University playing career. Having returned to the game post injury, he played his part in helping Old Elthamians to win promotion to the third tier of National Rugby before deciding upon pursuing his coaching aspirations.

As a coach, Jamie has completed the RFU Advanced Coaching Award and alongside his role at Sevenoaks School, he devotes his time to the community game with Saracens RFC in working with their Elite Player Development Group. On top of this, he recently undertook a new coaching role at Sevenoaks Rugby Club in working with their senior 1st and 2nd XV squads.
