Sennocke Consort at Sidney Sussex College

On Tuesday 5 September, the Sennocke Consort had the privilege to sing in one of Cambridge University’s beautiful college chapels. The trip was orchestrated perfectly, from our leisurely stroll through Cambridge to our performance at Evensong in Sidney Sussex College chapel.

This was a truly special and unique experience that I was able to share as a member of the choir representing Sevenoaks School. It was hugely beneficial; not only challenging our performance skills as a choir but also giving us a chance to perform great classical music outside of school, and to briefly experience life at one of the most prestigious universities. Furthermore, it was greatly rewarding, after our long rehearsals, to finally perform in a historic chapel that resonated our harmonies beautifully.

The trip helped us bond as a choir whether it was with sheets of music in our hands or coffee cups, and in addition to our singing we had the chance to explore the beautiful city for ourselves, from watching people punting on the river to visiting colleges, in between practice and performance.

Overall, I found the day exciting and special, definitely a rare opportunity for any choir! Now we are back at school I can see the positive long-term effects the outing has produced as I feel we have acquired much more confidence in our singing. Many thanks to the Music department; from punting to crotchets, a memorable day indeed.

During my first week at Sevenoaks, I was introduced to the very accepting, friendly and talented choir, the Sennocke Consort. We went on a remarkable trip to Cambridge to perform at Sidney Sussex College. It was truly amazing to experience what it would be like to sing in a professional choir, in a gorgeous chapel with incredibly talented peers and teachers.

I made many new friends with whom I could share my passion for singing and had a wonderful time at rehearsals, touring the campus, learning about the University of Cambridge, wandering around town at breaks and finally performing brilliant pieces of music. It was my first time performing with such a big and talented choir and was tremendous. I learned new things from my enthusiastic friends and teachers and enjoyed every minute of it.
