Sporting highlights 12 March 2018

Cricket

The junior girls’ team competed well at the county finals of the Lady Taverners Schools Indoor Competition, coming up against some strong competition.

Natasha Farrant (OS 2014) has been selected in the England Women squad for the tour of India.

Cross country

The Lower School runners made an excellent effort at the Claremont Fan Court Inter-School Cross Country Competition. The boys’ and girls’ teams finished second overall.

Phoebe Barker finished second at the U20 British Cross Challenge Series.

Fencing

Piero Steiner won bronze at the London region youth championships, qualifying for the British youth championships.

Woser Prosser won gold at the south-east regional fencing competition, in the U14 Foil category. He has now qualified to compete in the nationals in May.

Football

We enjoyed some good midweek results, including draws against Tonbridge for the 3rd XI, U16B, U15A and U15B.

Netball

Last week saw some excellent wins against Lingfield and Caterham across a variety of age groups.

Rugby

Congratulations to the U15 Sevens side who reached the final of the Kent Cup, narrowly missing out on victory. Two county champions and one finalist over the last three years shows real development in the Sevens programme.

Kieran Sassone competed for Harlequins U18 at the Premiership Rugby Under-18s Academy Finals Day, at Allianz Park, the home of Saracens rugby club. They won fifth place play-offs against Sale Sharks.

Old Sennockian Sam Parker (0S 2014) captained the Cambridge rugby league side versus Oxford in the RCMA varsity match.

Ski Racing Sevenoaks finished fifth overall at the ski racing championships last week.

Swimming

A Sevenoaks team competed at the Bath and Otter school championships on Friday at the London Olympic Pool. Sevenoaks finished eighth overall out of 44 large schools; an excellent effort. The boys’ team made the 4 x 100m freestyle final.

Tennis

Our senior teams competed at the national finals in Bolton at the weekend. The boys finished second in their group while the girls finished third.

Staff

Congratulations to John Witton (Biology) on achieving a PB of 1.19.34 during a half marathon last weekend; an exceptional time.
