New York beckons for Sevenoaks teenage traders

A team of four student traders from Sevenoaks School will compete for an all-expenses paid trip to New York after making it through to the national final of the 2015 Student Investor Challenge. To reach this stage, the would-be Warren Buffets have beaten more than 30,000 other students and outperformed the FTSE 100 share index in growing their portfolios from a virtual £100,000.

The team of Shyam Kalairajah, Akanksha Satdasani, Euan Williams and Max Noka will now attend the national final in London, where they will compete in a live trading simulation and deliver an interactive business presentation to an expert panel of judges. The winners of the final will secure an educational trip to take in the sights and sounds of Manhattan.

The Student Investor Challenge is a free competition run by ifs University College, the university college for financial education. It provides teams of up to four students aged 14-19 with a virtual £100,000 to trade shares, stocks, futures and assets and the opportunity to experience the dynamic world of share dealing. This year’s challenge attracted more than 10,000 teams, and the Vice Principal at ifs University College, Alison Pask, described it as ‘one of the most keenly-fought yet, with very little to choose from among the top trading-teams’. She added that Sevenoaks has ‘done exceedingly well’ to reach this stage.

Another team from Sevenoaks, Vilhelm and Co, reached the final in 2014.
