The Sevenoaks School Model United Nations team had a fantastic weekend in Bath in March and the 2023 BISMUN conference.

We had delegations representing Ethiopia, Turkey, Cuba and Argentina, and students wrote UN-style resolutions on topics including the South China Sea, nuclear fusion, the regulation of space, and e-waste.

One new innovation at this year’s conference was a Historical Committee where delegates debated as if it were 1992 – on the break up of the USSR, the Bosnian war, and negotiations to end Apartheid.

A special mention for Mominn Nawaz who won Best Delegate in the Historical 1992 Committee, but all of or delegates performed outstandingly well – representing their county’s stance, but with diplomacy and compromise, and learning about United Nations processes along the way.

Sevenoaks won thirteen individual commendations and awards, with three whole delegation awards, including the top award of Best Delegation for those representing Ethiopia. Congratulations to all involved.
