Appointment of new Bursar
We are delighted to announce that the Headmaster and Governors have appointed Dr Brigid McClure as Bursar of Sevenoaks School from September 2021.
Dr McClure is currently the Head of Directorate and Strategy Delivery at London School of Economics & Political Science, reporting to the LSE Director, Baroness Minouche Shafik. Prior to this, she worked in senior roles at King’s College London, including as Deputy COO (Arts & Sciences); she has also had roles at the University of Strathclyde and Leeds Metropolitan University. Dr McClure has extensive experience working in large educational institutions, and is well placed to oversee the areas of finance, property, operations and compliance at Sevenoaks. She will be an inspirational leader for our 380 support staff, and a strong strategic partner for the Headmaster.
Dr McClure earned a first-class degree in Music and an MPhil in Gender Studies from Cambridge. She completed her PhD in Social and Cultural Analysis at King’s College London, where she also received a PGCert in Academic Practice in Higher Education. She plays the violin, viola and sings, and has danced and taught salsa for over a decade. Dr McClure captained the blues lacrosse team at Cambridge and played internationally for Scotland. We are fortunate to attract such an experienced, talented professional to Sevenoaks, who champions academic rigour and also values the co-curricular side of education.
Headmaster Jesse Elzinga said, ‘We have run an intense and thorough process for the appointment of the Bursar, using the executive recruitment firm Perrett Laver to support us. Dr McClure came through the process with flying colours and was the unanimous first choice of the selection committee, which involved several school governors. Dr McClure has experience working at a senior level at some of the most successful universities in the UK, and we are fortunate to recruit a Bursar of such high calibre. We will benefit from her insight, strategic thinking and exceptional communication skills in the years ahead.’
Dr McClure said, ‘I am delighted to accept the role of Bursar at such a progressive, innovative school, at an exciting moment of transition with a new headmaster and several new members of the leadership team. I look forward to working with them to deliver an ambitious vision for further growth and development as the school approaches its 600th anniversary in 2032. My family and I also very much look forward to moving to Sevenoaks and joining the community, which has already proven to be warm and welcoming.’< Back
